Tasmania’s leading reinsman Gareth Rattray may be sidelined for at least a month after a freak accident at Carrick last Sunday.

Rattray was kicked in the hand by a horse hen leaving the meeting, he headed home in some pain and went to Latrobe Hospital on hs venture home for x-rays.

He was later transferred through to Launceston General Hospital where he had surgery to have a wire inserted in his damaged finger on his left hand.

Being left handed, the injury will severely restrict Rattray from handling or driving horses.

Rattray, who has won the past 10 Tasmania driver premierships, is currently sitting in second place this season with 14 wins, Mark Yole heads the drivers premiership table  with 23.
