As Emily Suvaljko nears 600 driving wins, the 23-year-old managed to get wins 596 and 597 on Sunday at Kellerberrin, including the feature of the day, the DKT Rural Agencies Kellerberrin Cup on Eye Better for trainer Lang Inwood.

Six-year-old Eye Better made her way to the stables of Lang Inwood in late October 2023, a purchase that has proved plentiful for the Northam based trainer, winning just second up within just weeks of being transferred, with now five wins for her latest stable and a further 12 placings just for good measure.

The six-year-old by Betterthancheddar started at $4.20 odds in the feature on the day and after racing just two days earlier, it appears the Friday night run at Gloucester Park didn’t soften her up at all.

“Lang was actually quite confident going into Kellerberrin, she raced on the Friday and went good, and he just said she backs up so well, so I was quite confident leading into that race,

“She was quite keen, Jnr (Gary Hall Jnr) came up to me last time he drove her and asked me to check her bridle because she was so keen in the prelim but she was actually nice and relaxed in the prelim on Sunday, but going up to the mobile I was wishing I had gone up a grip because she got quite keen in the run

“But she is quite versatile, we obviously used for her speed, but she can do a bit of work in her races as well.” Suvaljko said.

Eye Better finished in fifth place on Friday night in the L13 Fillies & Mares race, finishing just 7.2m behind the winner, Eve Crocker, in a winning mile rate of 1:57:2.

Suvaljko who had a nasty race fall last year took quite some time to get back to the races and even when she did return, her confidence had taken quite a beating, but she is hopeful that is all behind her now.

“Obviously, I’d like to keep going,

“I’m going to these tracks because I wasn’t getting as many drives and it’s probably been one of my worst seasons, Dad has just hit his 100 (for the season) and I’m still half way,

“I’d just like to, next season especially, get back to 100 a season at least and go from there.”

Emily Suvaljko heads to Gloucester Park tonight for six drives.
