The 2016 Racing Queensland UBET winter carnival is fast approaching and in the coming weeks, Queensland harness broadcaster Chris Barsby will profile a number of major players vying for the top prizes.
With 18 Black Type races on the program for the 2016 Winter Carnival, the carnival’s pinnacle in 2016 is the G1 Blacks A Fake, which now boasts an impressive $200,000 in stakes.
The carnival spans from May 28 to July 30.
Here’s a profile featuring an emerging talent that will chase Derby success during the Queensland winter carnival.
Name: Stanley Ross Robyn
Stable Name: Stan
Age: 3yo gelding
Owner: Greg & Peter Mellington
Trainer: David Hewitt
Driver: Brad Hewitt
Prizemoney: $25,993
Biggest win: C4-C7 Menangle event
Target: $25k Gold Coast Derby & Gr.1 $75k Queensland Derby
Trainer says: “He’s a horse that we quite like but we’re still learning more and more about him with each start, the Queensland campaign has been part of the plan since he arrived from New Zealand and we thought he deserved his opportunity. Looking back, he wasn’t ready for the NSW Derby series but he still qualified for the final but he’s definitely improved since then.”
Barsby says: “I like the way he keeps improving and his speed is impressive. I won’t be shocked to see him race well up here in Brisbane if he can get some luck in running and some handy draws, this campaign away from home should hopefully bring him on a little more which augers well for the future. Part of a great stable and should provide plenty of good times.”
