3Harness Racing Victoria’s own “Poppy” has gained a start in Hamish and Andy’s #ThePeoplesRace on Monday at Wedderburn Trotting Track (Donaldson Park, Wedderburn).

The event, titled “The Race That Slows Down The Nation”, will be run at 5pm and broadcast live on Hamish and Andy’s national radio show (heard on Fox FM 101.9, hit 105, hit929, 2DAY FM, hit 107)

“Poppy” will pull a sulky in the race, but Good Form expert Blake Redden doesn’t believe that will scupper his winning chances.

“He’s only been in work a couple of weeks but he races best fresh,” Redden said.

“I’ve seen a couple of his unofficial trials, and he’s got the stamina of an AFL footy umpire, so while the 800-metre trip isn’t ideal, being fresh he’ll have plenty of dash in the legs.”

HRV’s Trots Cruiser will be on course at Wedderburn with free show bags containing trots merchandise to be handed out, while patrons will also have the chance to enter the draw to win The Trots Cruiser.

Worldwide music sensations Birds of Tokyo and Jessica Mauboy will play live at the event.

Trainer Andy Gath, who is preparing Poppy for the race, will provide an update on the horse’s fitness and form in coming days.
