The Board and Executive of HRNSW met with officials from the Tamworth Harness Racing Club on Monday afternoon to discuss the future of the new racing facility in Tamworth. The state’s controlling body explained its development and future building strategy and assured locals a new track would be built.
HRNSW Chairman Rex Horne confirmed the plans to build a new track at Tamworth were continuing as had been announced previously.
“After a constructive meeting with the Tamworth Club, I am pleased to announce that a development application (DA) will be lodged with the local council, tentatively in March 2016,” Mr Horne said.
“HRNSW has been working on the Tamworth project and is now comfortable that the development of a new track can progress to the DA stage.”
Mr Horne assured Tamworth officials HRNSW wanted the track built in a timely manner to enhance the harness racing product in the region.
“The Board and Executive management will now work cohesively with the Tamworth Club to ensure the optimum outcome is achieved in the most proficient timeframe.”
Tamworth Harness Racing Club President Terry Browne confirmed the local harness racing community is looking forward to the new facility being built.
“We are eagerly awaiting to see the plans for the new modern harness racing complex which will be submitted with the new DA,” Mr Browne said.
“The necessary sale of the showgrounds will be a great boost to the local community, harness racing enthusiasts and the historic Tamworth Pastoral and Agricultural Association.”
