8.5Racing Queensland and UBET have joined forces to launch an exciting new ‘Picket Fence’ initiative aimed at enticing some of the best pacers in Australia to the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

In a ground-breaking initiative, the UBET Picket Fence offers trainers and owners the chance to win a whopping $111,000 in bonuses for any horse that can win three races in a row during the eligible Queensland Winter Racing Carnival races between June 18 and July 16.

To be eligible, a horse’s first two ‘Picket Fence’ victories must be obtained while racing in Queensland, leading up to the UBET Picket Fence finale night.

The final ‘picket’ must be obtained by winning one of the four UBET Picket Fence finales on Blacks A Fake race night at Albion Park on Saturday, July 16

UBET Picket Fence races will be held for 2YO, 3YO and Open Class pacers at Albion Park Harness Racing Club and Redcliffe Paceway, with the following bonuses offered:

· $50,000 for the Blacks A Fake Picket Fence winner
· $20,000 for the Queensland Derby Picket Fence winner
· $20,500 for the QBRED Triad 2yo C&G Final Picket Fence winner
· $20,500 for the QBRED Triad 2yo Fillies Final Picket Fence winner

Racing Queensland Acting Chief Executive Officer Sam Adams said the concept was designed to further enhance the caliber of horses targeting the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

“We are really excited about the UBET Picket Fence promotion as it incentivises big name interstate trainers to bring their 2yo, 3yo and Open class talent to Queensland for an extended period of time, instead of just focusing on the Group 1 spoils,” said Adams.

“It addition, it also provides an incentive for Queensland’s leading talent to match against the nation’s best.

“The winner of the Blacks A Fake can not only take home the $120,000 winners cheque but also an additional $50,000 bonus, so we are sure that will prove enticing for trainers.

“More broadly, the promotion will also enhance the profile of our Queensland Winter Racing Carnival nationally and internationally.

As part of the process of recruiting some of the big names to the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, Racing Queensland has engaged the services of respected racecaller Chris Barsby as talent scout for the concept.

UBET Chief Operating Officer Barrie Fletton said the Picket Fence initiative would help drive wagering through attracting quality participants and generating additional interest for punters.

“We expect the UBET Picket Fence to boost wagering on harness racing throughout the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival,” Mr Fletton said.
“It’s hopeful that key interstate trainers will bring their horses to Queensland earlier which in turn will in turn entice punters to get behind these high quality races.”
