Bryan (Ginger) Woodhouse, who raced Dorocin at the inaugural meeting of the Tuapeka Harness Racing Club 54 years ago, won a race with her descendant, Pat’s Success at the meeting at Forbury Park on Sunday.

Woodhouse, of Omakau, bred Pat’s Success and races the 6yr-old Great Success – Blazing Pat gelding with Weedons trainer, Neil Edge, Marie Davis, Peter Winchester , Richard Bishop and Graham Sandford.

Pat’s Success came close to being destroyed as a 3yr-old after he was lanced in the flank by the shaft of a cart. The accident occurred when he shied while jogging.

“You could have put a 20 litre bucket in the hole. He was three or four months at the Prebbleton veterinary clinic and they saved him,’’ said Neil Edge.

Dorocin, a Medoro mare Woodhouse bought for £23 ($46) and £2 for the cover, has been ancestress of a host of winners, among them Young Pat and her son Supreme Pat (2001 Victoria Trotting Derby)

Neil’s brother, Alan drove Scanreco Bay to win the race for amateur drivers. He races Scanreco Bay with Bernie Ryan, of Christchurch.

Scanreco Bay was claimed for $3000 at Forbury Park on May 8. Scanreco Bay has managed a win and nine minor placings in 14 starts since he was claimed and transferred to West Melton trainer, Michael House.
