A FEW easy days before another Group One mission…that’s the plan with outstanding filly Jewel Melody.
Speaking after the two-year-old captured her second Australian Pacing Gold Final at Albion Park tonight, trainer Bernie Hewitt revealed Jewel Melody’s schedule.
Thanks to her dual eligibility status Jewel Melody captured the APG Bullion Final at Club Menangle in April before being taken north for tonight’s $156,000 decider which is restricted to stock purchased via APG’s QLD Sale.
With the daughter of Captaintreacherous also eligible for the Qbred Triad series, Hewitt will freshen Jewel Melody ahead of the futurity’s heats on August 9.
Should all go according to plan, Jewel Melody will then contest the Final 11 days later.
“She will have a few easy days now as there is almost three weeks before the Triad heats,” Hewitt said. “She has done an amazing job and a few days rest will do her good.
“Hopefully she can go just as well in the Triad and finish her time in Queensland on a high.”
With Hewitt in the cart, Jewel Melody began quickly to lead from barrier two as Priority Betting was caught in the ‘death seat’.
Striding clear along the back straight, Jewel Melody was untouched on her way to a 19-metre win from My Ultimate Jacko.
Maywyns La Nina was 10 metres away third.
“That was a super run from her,” Hewitt said. “She did it as easily as she pleased and had plenty up her sleeve on the line.”
Rating 1:55.6 over 1660 metres, Jewel Melody stretched her record to six wins and four placings from 10 starts for earnings of $249,888, with three of her victories Group Ones.
