Star former Kiwi pacer Ohoka Punter is back on track.

When he was rushed to a veterinary clinic last Tuesday night, new trainer Gary Hall Sr thought any chance of winning the Perth Inter Dominion was gone.

But he recovered from a bout of colic quickly and worked well last Saturday.

“He’s back on song,” driver Gary Hall Jr said. “It was important we could give him a good hitout over the weekend and he came through it well.

“He did get a bit tired late, but you’d expect that given he missed a bit of work.

“Most important, he felt good and seemed good afterwards.”

Just three days before he fell ill, Ohoka Punter scorched around Byford in a trial which convinced the Halls they had a serious Inter Dominion contender.

The multiple Group 1 winner will go into the series fresh having not started since winning the Maryborough Cup on October 23.

The fields for Friday night’s opening round of Inter Dominion heats are out Tuesday night.

Ohoka Punter is currently $8 third favourite for the final on Aussie TAB behind Hectorjayjay ($3.20) and Lennytheshark ($4).

The $A1.1 million Grand Final is at Gloucester Park on December 9.
