The 2008 winner of the Group 1 Sky Racing WA Derby, Argent Treasure, will return to Gloucester Park this Friday night to lead out the field for the 2022 edition of WA’s premier three year old race.
Argent Treasure had 120 career starts and amassed 14 wins, 17 seconds and 12 third placings, for total prizemoney of $398,434.
Now aged 18, the stunning grey gelding has done it all in his career after racing – having completed endurance rides, showing in harness, been a Clerk of the Course, lead out an Inter Dominion Field and even was a star at his trainer/owners’ Ross Oliveri and Jemma Hayman’s wedding! Jemma gracefully rode him to the ceremony and he carried the married couple away in a handsome carriage afterwards.
The Group 1 winner won’t be the only former racehorses in attendance, with six Off the Track standardbreds parading after Race 3.
- Peregrine Lily (Tayla) ridden by Rosie Atkins (last raced 2008)
- Intrepidation (Elmo) ridden by Gemma Sillitto (last trialled 2019, raced 2017)
- The Dali Express NZ (Jack) ridden by Lachlan Kennelly (last trialled May 2022, last raced 2020)
- Red Salute (Red) ridden by Pippa Moore (last raced Mar 2020)
- Black Pontiac (Max) ridden by Kylah Madden (last raced 2015)
- Major Mosby (Teddy) ridden by Maddison Horne (last raced Feb 2019)
Each of these standardbreds have furthered their post-racing education under the tuition of RWWA Official Retrainer, Bayley Thomas.
Friday night’s Off the Track showcase celebrates the versatility of our harness racehorses and their achievements in their careers after racing, which include successful ridden and in-hand showing, Pony Club and endurance racing. Red Salute represented standardbreds and competed at the 2021 Kulin Bush Races and Intrepidation recently participated in the nightly Troop display at the 2022 Perth Royal Show.
Trots fans can enjoy a ‘meet and greet’ with the flashy grey, Argent Treasure and the Off The Track horses in Stalls 29 – 32, near the Parade Ring on Friday night.
