Saturday’s Oamaru meeting has been transferred to the all-weather track.
Owing to persistent rain and the prospect of more rain leaving the track underwater and unsafe, the Oamaru HRC has made the early call to transfer their ‘Brothers In Arms meeting’ to the all-weather track, at the same venue.
President, David Heffernan, reported to HRNZ on the current state of affairs. “We’ve had verging on record rainfalls for time of year. There is surface water on the track currently. The forecast is for further showers in coming days, which will offset any drying and we’ll still be stuck at square one of that process. Of course safety concerns are paramount too. We have to provide a safe track for racing on and given we have the all-weather track the early decision was made.”
“We made the decision in consultation with HRNZ, NZRB and the RIU, pre-nominations. Making the early call allows it to be as fair as possible for all concerned.”
Heffernan confirmed the ‘Brothers In Arms’ Drivers Challenge will proceed as Programmed.
“It’s disappointing obviously, as we wanted to run this meeting on the grass but the all-weather track gives us the back-up opportunity and we feel this was the most prudent course of action.”
