This is another in an occasional series looking at some of New Zealand’s trotting broodmare gems.

One of our more recent trotting broodmare gems, race winner Geena Hest left a good number of winners and broodmare producing foals throughout her career.

GEENA HEST (1990 Gee Whiz/Lisa Hest; a member of the Dolly by Young Irvington family, CF N19) : five wins, T2:08.3, $30,545; ten live foals, nine raced, all winners including one in T2:00.0. Bred by Colin Campbell, raced by him with Steve Thompson, wIth first two foals bred by Campbell/Thompson, remainder by Steve Thompson and Brian Wood.

Geena Hest was the winner of five races (two at four; three at five; two Addington) and placed on five occasions from fifty two starts, T2:08.3, $30,545, fifth Cambridge Trotters Mile. Trained for the majority of her race career by Dick Prendergast, with Dave Gibbons handling preparations during a brief period in Auckland before Graeme Chalmers took over for a short final campaign.

Geena Hest’s dam Lisa Hest won four races as a pacer, 2:03.7, $10,560, Marlborough Winter Cup; dam of eight foals, five to race (three pacers, two trotters), two winners and a qualifier. Other than Geena Hest, Paleface Blue Chip was a winner at Alexandra Park, 2:05.2, $5,380.

Dual gaited grand dam Den Hest, won three races as a pacer (2:11.2) and one as a trotter  (T2:14.6), $4,180, trained by Clem Scott.
