1985 HILARIOUS GUEST : 1:57.3, $283,230, twenty one wins, nineteen places; daughter of Australian based sire Hilarious Way (Bret Hanover) and Garrison Hanover mare New Guest, representing the Tondeleyo/Estella Amos branch of the family of Brown Lancet. Included amongst her half brothers and sisters were 1) Imperial Guest, Golden Slipper Stakes 2) Regal Guest, Fillies Triple Crown Classic, two DB Fillies heats, dam of Laurent Perrier (dam of Lancome, $461,277, Harness Jewels Diamond – 4m; In Monaco $242,559) and 3) Regent Guest, dam of Estella Rose, Leonard Memorial and unraced Larissa Rose dam of Jacks Legend, 1:49.0US, $755,942, Harness Jewels Emerald – 3 and Joannes A Delight NZSS – 2f); grand dam of Champagne Princess, Southland Oaks, dam of leading two/three year old Krug – GN/NZ Derby, Cardigan Bay Stakes, 1:52.7, $619,478.

New Guest was a daughter of True Guest (five wins), dam of Speedy Guest, sixteen wins, GN Derby, Messenger, two ID heats and Golden Guest, nine wins, third NZ Derby, good producer. Hilarious Guest left fourteen foals for three winners with her progeny breeding on; third dam of Village Hero 1:50.3US, CAN Burlington Pace and fifth dam of Outrageous El, TAS Derby.

1986 QUIET TOUCH : 1:57.8, $119,400, ten wins, seven places; from a family of top line fillies she was lightly raced only starting on twenty one occasions. By good sire Boyden Hanover from an unraced Timely Knight mare in Queen To Be, a good producer (ten winners) and grand dam of Scruffy Murphy, $526,357.

Quiet Touch is the dam of eleven foals, four winners including Millwood Touche, 1:56.0, dam of Ohoka Texas 1:50.1US, $373,363; Millwood Faith, $248,614; Ohoka Kentucky $235,627.

1987 FRANGELICO : 1:57.9, $204,910, thirteen wins, fifteen places; as well as winning two NZ Breeders Stakes she placed third in another together with third/fifth NZFFA, fourth in an Auckland Cup and fifth in NZ Cup. Frangelico was by ill-fated Fulla Napoleon stallion Golden Fulla, from eight win Scottish Hanover mare Kara Kara, dam also of Lord Kara (seven wins). Kara Kara was by Scottish Hanover from Local Lass, a half-sister to Sharvid Skipper 1:55.0US. From the family of Minnie Tracey, speedy USA winner Tiger Thompson 1:49.4US, Central Otago Cup traces directly to Frangelico his third dam.

1988 BIONIC CHANCE : 1:58.3, $323,630, eighteen wins, ten places; a talented juvenile filly by Adios Butler stallion Majestic Chance from Bachelor Hanover mare Bionic Star, herself an eight race winner and multiple winner producing mare. Bionic Chance’s grand dam was 1978 NZ Broodmare of Year Adio Star, winner of three and dam of ten winners (four each by Bachelor Hanover and  Garrison Hanover) from fifteen foals including male Derby winners Main Star GN Derby, sire; NZ Derby winners Bachelor Star, sire, Game Adios and Main Adios. Adio Star’s fillies included Stars Legacy, third dam of Millview Sierra, WA Mares Classic and unraced Supreme Adios, dam of Oh So Fair, WA Breeders Stakes. Adio Star was grand dam of 1) Most Happy Star, WA Triple Crown – 2f, dam of unbeaten Windshield Star, Leonard Memorial, grand dam of Brilliant Strike 1:51.0US and Double R 1:51.1US; 2) Supreme Holmes, grand dam of Supreme Mach 1:50.3US and 3) Supreme Knight, dam of Supreme Chip, Fillies Triple Crown. Bionic Chance did not leave a winner from two foals produced.

1989 GINA ROSA : 1:58.4, $414,665, seventeen wins, twenty six places; by Meadow Skipper stallion Plat Du Jour from top class mare Gina Marie, ten wins, NI Oaks, Ladyship Stakes and 1986 NZ Broodmare of Year primarily due to the efforts of Gina Rosa and her half-brother Nardinski as juvenile horses. Nardinski won NZ 2yo Championship and GN Derby while Gina Rosa was successful in GN Oaks, Nevele R Fillies and Ladyship Stakes (3yo Filly of Year) plus Kaikoura Cup and Premier Mares Championship as an older horse, twice Aged Pacing Mare of Year.

Gina Marie was third dam of Georgetown 1:50.0US, $673,283 and half-brother Motown 1:50.1US. Gina Rosa’s tail line proceeds through unraced second dam Theonna by little known Light Brigade stallion Misty (trotting winner), third dam Fallacy mare Felictas (trotting winner), fourth dam unraced High Hat is third dam of good grass track performer Kata Haiho while fifth dam Bonny Rey is a half-sister to the great Logan Pointer mare Bonny Logan, this being the Bonilene branch of the Black Betty family.

Gina Rosa’s ten foals produced four winners including Allstars Blue Jean, Flying Stakes, 1:48.4US, $969,901, seventeen wins in 1:50.0, Cullens Blue Jean 1:51.4US, $360,181 and one time holder of NZ grass track record Ohoka Dallas 1:56,5, $368,863.

1991, 1992 BLOSSOM LADY : 1:56.0, $1,334,808, forty three wins, thirty eight places; champion millionaire female pacer of the nineteen nineties. A daughter of Race Time stallion Farm Timer and dam Lumber Lady (Lumber Dream) representing Axworthy blood through successful local second dam sire Bachelor Hanover, Blossom Lady is a member of the Fashion Queen family. Lumber Lady was also dam of Biaggi, 1:54.7, $331,909, good QLD performer and grand dam of Seelster Blue Jeans 1:51.2US, $281,928 and Casartelli 1:51.0US. Third dam Blossom Song is grand dam of Ima Orphan, VSS 3c and 4h and fifth dam of Mizurri, VIC Platinum Homegrown – 3T.

Blossom Lady’s fourth dam is broodmare gem Cherry Blossom, dam of six foals for four winners including champion race mare Robin Dundee, $229,272, 1:59.0AUS when winning inaugural Miracle Mile, twenty five wins, NZ Oaks, NZFFA, Auckland Cup, joint ID Pacing Final winner (with Jay Ar) and multiple NA winner, dam of Genghis Khan, 1:51.4US, $983,467, USA Governor Driscoll and successful Australasian sire including Sogo (GN Derby) and Warrior Khan (NSWSS – 3c, QLD Pacing Championship, Winter Cup). Other foals included Donald Dundee who ran second in the NZ Derby and Dundee twelve NZ wins. Cherry Blossom is the fifth dam of millionaire Australian pacer Hectorjayjay, 1:50.5, Breeders Crown 4h, Len Smith Mile, Allied Express Sprint, Blacks A Fake.

 

Blossom Lady, 1992 NZ Cup

 

Blossom Lady’s race record included eight Group One victories – three NZ Breeders Stakes, NZ Cup/FFA, Easter Cup and two Hunter Cups. Her 1:56.0 mile time was recorded in the 1991 NZ Breeders Stakes; she was Pacer and Harness Horse of the Year for 1992/3 season, four time Aged Pacing Mare of Year and a member of the NZ Trotting and Addington Harness Halls of Fame. Her three foals were all winners led by twenty win open class performer Mister DG, 1:55.9, $727,913 and like her dam a Hunter Cup winner.
