Another successful Northern Rivers Show Run finished on the weekend after a strong month of racing at four different country shows in the region. Starting at Lismore the circuit moved to Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby and finally Bangalow with competitive and exciting four-horse races keeping the crowds entertained.
Trainer Julie Hobday enjoyed plenty of success over the month and her horses Bandan and Twebby Star won rugs as part of a point score competition for the leading open and maiden horses respectively across the four shows.
Lindsay Wright, who assists in the planning and running of the Bangalow Show, congratulated all of the participants who competed.
“It was great to see so many horses compete at the different shows, there were 19 horses at Lismore, 25 at Murwillumbah, 37 raced at Mullumbimby and we got 18 at Bangalow,” Wright said.
“The tracks range in size from about 380 metres up to 500 metres and it was great to see so many people support show racing over the past month.”
Wright praised HRNSW Chief Operating Officer Reid Sanders for his support.
“Reid through HRNSW has been a great support for show racing in this part of the state, HRNSW donated the two rugs that were won by Julie’s (Hobday) horses and he was always willing to lend a hand where he could.
“This year we even attracted a couple of trotters to the show run which was unusual but the people who attended the shows got right into it and there was a great atmosphere at all of the shows.”
Mullumbimby Show ran 26 races over two days while Murwillumbah ran 19.
“The only show it didn’t rain at was Bangalow but the bad weather didn’t prevent any of the races being run which was great.
“It was great to see Its You Not Me win at Albion Park last week and rate 1:55.5 in the process because he was one of the horses that had been competing at the shows.
“It gave all the competitors a bit of a kick along knowing that the show form was standing up at the registered race meetings.”
