The North Island harness racing awards are back, and they are making up for lost time.
The big awards night will be held at Cambridge Raceway on Saturday, March 11 and because of disruptions caused by Covid the awards will reflect great performances on and off the track for the past three seasons. Among the awards that will be handed out will be the North Island Harness Horse of the Year, and the drivers and trainer of the year.
Cambridge Raceway is hosting the function in conjunction with the North Island Trainers and Drivers Association, North Island Standardbred Breeders Association and the North Island Harness Racing Owners Association.
There is a change of format on past awards evenings. Held in the Skyline Lounge, there won’t be a sit down dinner, with the emphasis on completing the awards in the early part of the evening so that people can mingle and enjoy the live band.
The Auckland Trotting Club has kindly agreed to subsidise tickets for North Island Cadets and Junior Drivers.
The event starts at 6.30pm, with tickets on sale for $95. Included are bubbles on arrival and light refreshments throughout the evening.
Anyone wanting to buy tickets can do so here : https://cambridgeraceway.flicket.co.nz/events/607b9a51-0f67-4760-9d95-02212f8a9e70
The North Island awards will be held exactly a week after the Harness Racing New Zealand annual awards at Addington Raceway (March 4).
