100 wins for Tim Vince

Trainer Tim Vince chalked up his first win for the season and his 100th overall when Mister Slick won the amateur drivers race for Sheryl Wigg at Cambridge last night. His 100th came from 920 starts. His first winner was in the 2012 season, with 2017 being his most successful with 25 winners.

Dizzy heading to the trials

Former Jewels winner Dizzy Miss Lizzy is on the verge of a racing comeback, and will head to the trials next week. The now six-year-old daughter of Changeover has not been seen on a New Zealand racetrack since running sixth in the NZ Standardbred Breeders Stakes at Addington in February last year. In more recent times she’s had two wins in Sydney with Tim Butt but is now being trained by Tom Bagrie who says building up her fitness is the priority.

“She seems to be coming up well,” says Bagrie, “I’ll let her guide us with the path we take but we hope to find a fillies and mares race first up.”

Overall Dizzy Miss Lizzy has won six from 34 starts, and $271,547, with her biggest success being the Group 1 2YO Diamond at the 2017 Harness Jewels in Ashburton.

Enghien retired

A star as a three-year-old the Greg and Nine Hope-trained trotter Enghien has been retired. The injury-plagued son of Love You won 15 races and $377,441 and was at his best as a three-year-old, winning nine in a row.

A winner at 99

In the U.S. 99-year-old harness racing owner Keith Carey has been back in the winners’ circle after his four-year-old mare Nat A Cam won in Columbus, Minnesota. Carey has been involved in harness racing for as long as anyone can remember. The win was specially significant because Nat A Cam is the last horse he raced with his late wife Katherine who died three years ago.
