Positive swab for Townley runner

Three-year-old trotter Well Defined has been disqualified from its maiden win at Orari on February 3.

The horse returned a positive swab to Ketoprofen and trainer Kevin Townley has subsequently pled guilty to a charge of presenting the horse to race not free of a prohibited substance.

The case was heard at Addington last Friday but the Judicial Control Authority reserved its decision on a penalty.

McLellan guilty of driving charge

Wyndham driver Brendon McLellan has been found guilty by the Judicial Control Authority of a driving charge brought by the Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) but not guilty on another related charge.

The RIU charged McLellan with failing to drive out his horse, Pass The Speights, at the Wyndham meeting on January 18 and the JCA this week found the charge proven.

He was also charged with failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that Pass The Speights was given the full opportunity to win the race.

The JCA dismissed that charge and are now taking submissions from McLellan and the RIU on a penalty for the guilty charge.
