Carter Dalgety looks to have set a record with his 100th success at Alexandra Park last Friday. All You Need Is Me dominated the Group 1 Northern Oaks with Carter posting his century from just 550 starts. According to Harness Racing New Zealand records that makes him the “quickest” junior driver in this country to get to three figures, eclipsing even Dexter Dunn.The now American-based Dunn, a 10-time New Zealand champion driver, took 626 drives to bring up his first 100 winners. Overall, Dalgety is the second fastest to 100. Top of the pile is Natalie Rasmussen. Driving for the powerful All Stars barn she needed just 305 races to bring up the century. But when she arrived in this country from Australia about 13 years ago she was a fully fledged multiple Group 1 winner and at the top of her game, as opposed to Dalgety and Dunn who were starting out.

Cold Chisel goes to the top
Cold Chisel is the leading stakes earner in this country after his narrow but impressive win in the Woodlands Stud Northern Derby at Alexandra Park on Friday night. The $110,000 winner’s cheque took him to $179,385 in 2024 with two wins and three seconds in five starts. Another star at the meeting All You Need Is Me is second on $152,950. She has won six of seven lifetime starts. And third is Chase A Dream on $123,150. They are the only three to have surpassed six figures this year.
NZ record for northern trotter
All Cashed Up set a new New Zealand record when winning at Alexandra Park last Friday. Starting off a 20m mark, he cut out the 2700m stand in an adjusted 3:22.6, beating the old record set by Bolt For Brilliance last year (3:23.3). The Michelle Wallis – Bernie Hackett trained eight-year-old beat Con Crazia Love by three lengths for his 13th win in 59 starts.
Two year olds head to kindy
Whoever wins tomorrow’s Kindergarten Stakes at Wyndham will be in some estemeed company. The time honoured two-year-old race dates back to Lordship’s win in the very first race in 1961 and among the most recent winners have been stars Akuta (2021) and Don’t Stop Dreaming (2022). After his emphatic win on debut Ukraine will line up as favourite with Always Dreaming going for three from three after dead-heating for the win with Franco Ezra last start.
Kiss anyone?
Kiss is among the 12 horses up for sale in the latest gavelhouse standardbred auction. The Barry Purdon-Scott Phelan trained filly has raced against the country’s best three-year-olds including All You Need Is Me and Duchess Megxit and after three wins from 11 starts the decision has been made “to move her on.” At last look she had fetched a bid of more thane $30,000, with bidding ending from 7pm tonight.
