Big upset for former Kiwi

Former Kiwi pacer Majorca is going from strength to strength. Now the winner of five of eight races state-side she beat a field including Amazing Dream at Harrah’s Philadelphia at the weekend. Meanwhile ex Kiwi Mr Perfect made his Aussie debut a winning one. Formerly trained by the Telfers, the Bettor’s Delight four-year-old won at Echuca last night for Nathan and Russell Jack.

Newcomers to Smith stable

Canterbury trainer Gavin Smith has got two interesting newcomers to his barn. He’s now training nine win five-year-old American Me, who’d been with Doug Gale at Bulls and he’s taken over the training of One Over Da Stars. The eight-year-old Love You mare has had two colts since last racing, at Timaru in 2019. She had five wins from 38 starts while being trained by Greg and Nina Hope at Woodend.

Like father like son in Sweden

France was the big winner of Sweden’s big race, with the French trotter Etonnant winning the Elitlopp final at Solvalla. And he did it tough, breaking with 800 to go and then travelling four wide around the last corner before getting up by a length in 1:51.3. The winner is owned and trained by Richard Westerink, who also owned and trained two-time Elitlopp winner Timoko, who just happens to be Etonnant’s sire.
