Dunn in the groove
After a slow start to 2022 Dexter Dunn is climbing up on the leaderboard in the United States. His earnings for the year have just gone past $6m . He has 180 wins from 995 starts and is the fifth highest earning driver in North America, with Jason Bartlett leading the way on nearly $8m. Dunn’s highest profile wins have come with the sport’s latest superstar and world record holder Bulldog Hanover.
Hurrell racking up the air points
After a rare drive in Australia last night Mark Hurrell is back with a big book of drives at Winton tomorrow. Hurrell drove Aldebaran Keepa in the TAB Need For Speed Princess heats at Melton in Victoria. The recent Kiwi export finished fourth. Aldebaran Keepa won three from 14 for trainers Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett before the move across the Tasman earlier this month.
Change of scene for 10-win pacer
Got You Covered, a winner of ten from 55 starts, is heading from Robert and Jenna Dunn’s stables to Brent White at Ashburton. The four-year-old gelding’s last start was a win at Addington in May. The Dunns are currently second in the trainers’ premiership with 52 for this year, eight behind leaders Steve and Amanda Telfer on 60. The All Stars stable of Mark Purdon and Hayden Cullen were second but have been overtaken by Team Dunn. The All Stars have not had a winner since First Class in June 4 though they have a lot of their top horses heading to the trials as they target the New Zealand Cup and other lucrative targets.
Classie Brigade goes for three-peat
The Dunn-trained Classie Brigade is gunning for his third Maurice Holmes Vase at Addington this Friday. The nine-year-old, who’s won 21 races, won the Group Three feature in 2019 and 2021. The Dunns will have four in the race, with Korbyn Newman driving Classie Brigade, and John Dunn opting for favourite Smiffy’s Terror.
Her moment is now
A milestone of sorts for progressive trotter My Moment’s Now (R80). The Matt Purvis-trained five-year-old mare brought up her tenth career win when beating the likes of Enghien and Mataderos last Friday at Addington. It was her seventh win this year and she is now the third highest rated trotting mare in the country behind She Reigns (87) and Gold Chain (82).
