5Nixons Engineering – one of the long time sponsors of harness racing in Wagga – has won naming rights to next year’s Wagga Pacers Cup.  Owner Malcolm Nixon was delighted to win the major prize which also included a package to the Miracle Mile at Menangle.

Nixon and his wife Maxine were among 130 guests at the annual awards night where the winners of the Wagga and Riverina awards were acknowledged.

“I have been a sponsor for many years and I’m thrilled to be able to win the Cup prize,” Nixon said.

The evening also included life membership presentations to club vice presidents Kevin Wheatley and Ralph Brewer as well as former committeeman and current judge Don Inwood.

Committeeman Graham Halliwell was presented with the Sonny Maguire Memorial trophy.

It was a clean sweep for young driver Corey Bell who won the Wagga, Riverina and junior driver of the year titles.  Trainer Shaun Snudden also claimed the two major training prizes after a record breaking season where he prepared more than 100 winners and finished fifth in the NSW premiership.

Feature race winner Hollywood Sign was named Riverina pacer of the year for trainer Trevor White who won the same award some two decades earlier with Big Achiever.

Star youngster Bettermatch was a fitting winner of the juvenile of the year after winning five of his six starts including the Leeton Breeders Plate.

With ten wins for the season for his new owners including six at Wagga, Classiemahon was the best performed pacer at Wagga winning the pacer of the year title.
