Adelaide businessman and hobby breeder, Peter Olds, has the biggest draft with five lots in the 2017 Harnessbred.com South Australian Yearling Sale at Globe Derby Park on February 12.
A breeder-owner for more than 20 years, Olds is best known as the breeder of Charlie Magee, a winner of several races at Moonee Valley that later took a record of 1:55.2 in America, and Perry Barr, another Valley winner.
Of the four colts Olds has entered for the sale, two are by comparative newcomers to the siring ranks: All Speed Hanover and Smiling Shard.
All Speed Hanover, a 1:49 $820,000 son of Cams Card Shark and a US Breeders Crown champion at two, sired only a single crop in Australia before his untimely death. Smiling Shard (by Grinfromeartoear), is a former NZ 2YO Colt of the Year, and will have his first crop racing as two-year-olds this year.
Lot 16, a striking brown colt by All Speed Hanover, is out of a Life Sign daughter of the Victoria Oaks heat winner, Benevolent. Benevolent is the dam of the Albion Park Country Cup winner, Inthelightofday, and the Pink Bonnet placegetter, Girls Go Racing. This is the family of Sir Galvinator, winner of the Australian Pacing Gold, Esprit De Kayjay, Benefactor and so on.
The Smiling Shard colt, listed as Lot 12, is the first foal of a winning half-sister to the former crack racemare, Whats Emma Got, whose 31 successes include the Southern Cross and SA Oaks.
Lot 7 is a Million Dollar Cam colt, and the third foal of the ‘Grin’ mare Enjay Superstar. She is the dam of the Victoria Youthful Stakes winner, Enjay Speedstar and recent double winner, Camelot Speedstar. This is the family of Scruffy Murphy and Fibber Magee, a pair of outstanding SA pacers a decade ago.
Lot 21 is a Blissfull Hall half-brother to the dual Vicbred heat winner, Baccarat. He also belongs to a strong maternal family with his dam, Tyalla, being a half-sister to the metropolitan winners, Myouri and Peking Duck and the exported, Mr Bojangles.
Completing the Olds consignment is Lot 2 – a daughter of the Rocknroll Hanover horse, BGs Folly and from the immediate family of the NZ Cup and Hunter Cup winner, Arden Rooney.
All are eligible for Vicbred and the SA Sales Classic.
