Margo Nyhan is prolonging racing careers
By Duane Ranger
Margo Nyhan is more than just a horse trainer who has won has 118 races and just over $1 million in stakes since 2003.
The 49-year-old Weedons horse woman, for several years now, has been prolonging and preserving the careers of standardbreds with suspect legs and ailments.
“Six years ago my vet Kerry Estridge put me on to the Equi-Stim Leg Saver. I was a bit dubious at the start with but now after many treatments to many horses, I find it very successful.
“It is a holistic system for addressing lameness, bowed tendons and other health issues. It sends current to acupuncture points. The average horse owner can now safely and effectively take control of their horse’s health issues without incurring high medical costs,” Nyhan said.
She said originally bought one of the Canadian-produced Equi-Stim machines and because of its success soon found herself with five more.
“I was amazed at the success I was having. It treated tie-ups, ulcers, and it even fixed Sarah Palin’s stifles. None of my horses have had to have their joints treated by vets since I started using it,” Nyhan said.
“I just like helping out when people have had a wall and don’t know what to do,” she added.
She said Julius Caesar gelding, Sonnetsson was a classic example of how successful the treatments could be.
“He won four races and then that looked to be the finish of his career. Then we started treating him with Equi-Stim and then he won another five races for us.
“It was a similar case for Life Sign gelding Canndew, who never won a race when he got injured and then after we treated him, he won six,” the Canterbury horse woman said.
She said she had been treating sore standardbreds for almost six years now and she was making more people aware of what the holistic treatments could do.
“Obviously the vet is the main go-to person, but I know this works and I know it prolongs the careers of racehorses.
“Some trainers have been a bit cautious and tell me they need more time to think about it whereas others jump in boots and all. Tendon injuries don’t necessarily spell the end of a career,” Nyhan said.
She said West Melton horseman Steven McRae ran her about three weeks ago inquiring about Equi-Stim for his very nice 2-year-old filly named Nessa Franco (Gotta Go Cullen – Nostalgic Franco).
“He didn’t like the way she was standing and contacted me. I often get calls out of the blue. We have had horses dropped off to us in some bad states and after three weeks treatment the horse was racing within two-and-a-half months.
“I suppose we have treated between 50 and 100 horses so far. I think one of the best we have done was Carabella. She later went on to win 17 races,” said Nyhan.
She said not only were owners rapt with some of the outcomes but the treatments also helped preserve breeding careers.
“This is not an advert to try and attract business. I just want to make people aware that there is another and cheaper option out there which I would personally recommend – simply because the results speak for themselves,” Nyhan said.
