“A reluctant decision but it was one we hat to make”. Carl Middleton’s ongoing heath issues have mad it obvious to him that he needs to cut right back on his team of racehorses and broodmare band.
“We were pleased with the four we took to the yearling sales this years and have six to enter for 2016. We’re looking forward to preparing them from home, but training a team and breeding a large number of mares is just getting out of the question”
The Middleton Family is going to continue to farm the property at Highbank (near Methven). Ironically Carl and Heather shifted from Winchmore down at Ashburton back to Highbank a few years ago to a farm property over the road from thir original training establishment on the Highbank-Cairnbrae Road. That was where their Inter-domination trotting champ Fraggle Rocke came from.
“We’ve engaged PGG Wrightson to sell the horses, our gear and the 5-horse truck down at Ashburton Racecours on September 3 2015. Savona, especially was a difficult on to get our head around as we sent her to Australia solely with a view to getting her 1.55.4 record and the to breed from her”
In all there will be 19 lots including 10 breedmares, 6 of them in foal to Love You’s brother Repeat Love, 1 in foal to Peak, and 1 in foal to dream Vocation. “We’ll have some young stock to and probably about 5 horses who are in work”.
Peter logan from the Auctioneers said “the going horses look like a very good opportunity for someone to go straight into racing. I know Carl thinks Louis Moss a 2yo by Repeat Love who is already qualified is quite special. We will have a catalogue out early in August and there will be some footage available on our website of the horses in work. Carl will make them available for trainers to have a drive of prior to the sale”.
