Tabcorp Park Menangle provided many highlights for harness racing participants on Saturday night.
Talented Newcastle driver Grace Panella had a special moment in her fledgling career when she scored her first metropolitan winner from limited opportunities, partnering the Darren Binskin-trained Tuppence to an impressive win.
It was also a big night for leading reinsman Cameron Hart, who bagged five winners on the program, while Jack Trainor trained four winners.
And while all those achievements were significant, it was Menangle-based trainer Jarrod Alchin who stole the show by training a treble that included both the APG Gold Sovereign Finals for three-year-old pacers with Madrid winning the fillies’ section, and My Ultimate Ronnie the colts and geldings’ divisions.
Alchin capped the night off in the last when up-and-coming former Kiwi square-gaiter Regal Attire made it two on the bounce in the Trotters Mobile.
“It was a great night at the office, for sure,” said Alchin
“To get three winners at any metropolitan meeting is great, but for two of them to be at Group 3 level was even better.
“My Ultimate Ronnie was super from the front end on Saturday night.
“He is such a strong tough fellow that just loves his job.
“And Madrid went great as well, ripping home in a 26.5 second quarter to put a good field away.”
It is a mouth-watering thought for Alchin and his owners as both his stable stars appear destined to scale greater heights as they chase upcoming feature races.
“It is all upwards and onwards for both these horses with their next assignment being the New South Wales Breeders Challenge semi-finals next month,” said Alchin.
“I am so pleased for their respective connections who have been very loyal to me.
“I appreciate their support and hope I can deliver plenty more special moments for them.”
Alchin was also rapt with the performance of Regal Attire, who he believes will just keep getting better with racing.
“I really like what Regal Attire has done for us so far,” he said.
“Mick Boots (owner) always has the eye for a good horse and I think we have a handy square-gaiter on our hands with this bloke.”
The busy schedule for the Newcastle Club continues this afternoon.
The Belinda McCarthy-trained Come Say Hi should be too strong in Race 7.
