LAZARUS’ return to Menangle headlines a stellar meeting on Saturday night.
ADAM HAMILTON casts his eye over the card, which also features heats of the NSW Derby and NSW Oaks.
RACE 6 – CANADIAN CLUB SPRINT
Whether he holds the lead or not, LAZARUS (1) should be too good. It could be more of a contest if TIGER TARA (3) gets the front over a mile around Menangle. Key to the start if blazing beginner MACH DORO (7). It’s a shame SAN CARLO (8), MY FIELD MARSHAL (9) and FRANCO NELSON (10) drew wide.
SUGGESTED BET: Just watch Lazarus.
RACE 5 – ALLIED EXPRESS SPRINT
Cracking race, but the draw gives SOHO TRIBECA (6) the edge. Likely to keep working forward and find the front. Clear top pick if he does. HEAVEN ROCKS (10) faces a big task from outside draw over a mile, but you can’t rule him out with that talent. Will he do everything right? LENNYTHESHARK (9) was solid in the Hunter Cup and has great Menangle form. Sure to run well. ANYTHING FOR LOVE (5) might lead and sit on Soho Tribeca. Place. MOONROCK (1) and ATOMIC RED (7) also place claims.
SUGGESTED BET: Soho Tribeca (6) to win if $2 or better.
RACE 7 – ROBIN DUNDEE STAKES
AMERETTO (10) is all-class and comes into this off a fantastic Hunter Cup run. Clear top pick even from wide draw. CARLAS PIXEL (1) is a class act, now joins Emma Stewart stable and drawn so well. BERISARI (8) is next best.
SUGGESTED BET: Ameretto (10) to win if $2 or better.
RACE 2 – NSW DERBY HEAT 1
ALL YOU NEED IS FAITH (1) very hard to beat from pole. HIGHTHANEAGLE (6) oozes talent and showed return to beat in much weaker race last time. CODE BAILEY (9) and MARAETAI (12) have stacks of talent, but wide draws.
SUGGESTED BET: Something each-way Higherthananeagle (6) if $7 or better.
RACE 3 – NSW DERBY HEAT 2
Vic Derby runner-up POSTER BOY (7) looks too good. Tough, fast and down in grade. Stablemate MAJOR TIMES (8) and the tough THE BROOKLYN BRAWLER (9) are next best. Place hopes DIVINE STATE (3), THE BLACK PRINCE (4) and LIFEONTHEBEACH (12).
SUGGESTED BET: Quinella Poster Boy (7) and Major Times (8).
RACE 4 – NSW DERBY HEAT 3
Think Vic Derby winner COLT THIRTY ONE (5) can overcame wider draw and cause minor upset over THE DEVILS OWN (1). Something seriously X-factor about Colt Thirty One for mine. MAJOR SHARD (6) next best. Place hopes TAM MAJOR (4), KONAN (10), MACKERAL (12), LITTLE PEANUT (8) and even WAR DAN (7).
SUGGESTED BET: Cold Thirty One to win if $2.70 or better.
RACE 8 – NSW OAKS HEAT 1
Should a 10th win from 11 starts for NOSTRA VILLA (5) from a good draw. SHEZ ALL ROCK (10) second pick ahead of IDEAL PLEASURE (2) and MAJOR OCCASION (4).
SUGGESTED BET: Nostra Villa in multis as she should just win at $1.35 or better.
RACE 9 – NSW OAKS HEAT 2
Very keen on SOHO BURNING LOVE (7) who is three-from-three this campaign. Tough so 2400m suits. Key rival is Emma Stewart’s new stable addition IMPRINCESSGEMMA (5). OUR BARE KNUCKLE (11) has an awful draw, but must be respected on massive win here two starts back. MY SWEETCHILLYPHILLY (10) has claims on return to her awesome 2YO form. Keep AQUA MISS (1) very safe.
SUGGESTED BET: Soho Burning Love to win at $1.80 or better. Something small Aqua Miss (1) each-way at $21 or better.
RACE 10 – NSW OAKS HEAT 3
Really like Queensland raider FAME ASSURED (8) a stablemate to Vic Derby winner Colt Thirty One and held in high regard by stable. MACEY JAYDE (7) is nice Vic filly with bold claims. MOLLY KELLY (9) is first-up and has claims on her best 2YO form. MY HARMONY BLUE (3) and SPEAK NO EVIL (6) in the mix as well.
SUGGESTED BET: Fame Assured each-way at $5 or better.
SUMMARY
BEST BET: R9 n7 Soho Burning Love
BEST VALUE: R10 n8 Fame Assured
BEST ROUGHIE: R2 n6 Higherthananeagle
