Future Direction
Survey FEEDBACK

HARNESS RACING INDUSTRY WANTS ONE GOVERNING BODY
Thank you to the over 120 participants that sent through their feedback on the future of Harness Racing in SA. It’s given us, the Board of HRSA, the information and guidance we need to set up the future direction and strategy.
What’s become very clear is that the participants, clubs and associations want change and want HRSA to take control of the industry and drive this change. Overwhelmingly they want HRSA to become the “AFL” of the Harness Racing Industry.
This is nothing new, and was part of the recommendations of the Bentley Report in 2006, the Cunningham Report in 2017 and the many business plans set up by HRSA in the past.
So what’s going to be different this time?
We are going to dismantle Harness Racing in SA, and create a completely new model which will be relevant to 2020. There will be a brand-new constitution, from there we will invite clubs, associations and participants to be involved in this exciting new format, with a set criteria for racing, behaviour, reporting, and administration. Everything we do will be to benefit Harness Racing first, not personal agendas.
As a Board we have recreated our vision: –
To Promote, Develop and Protect the Sport of Harness Racing in SA.
To do this we need everyone in the Industry to work together focused on the future not the past, so that future generations can enjoy this great sport. We also want to bring the fun back and enjoy what we do. It’s a challenge but we’re up to it but we need everyone on board all heading in the same direction.
The next steps are we will work on the items that have come from the feedback received: –
- Integrity and Welfare
- SAHRC and Globe Derby Park
- Marketing
- HRSA
- Handicapping, Breeding, Prizemoney
We will have Industry experts working with Board Members to address these and plan for the future and we hope to have all our plans finalised by May, then we can release to the Harness Racing Community.
I’m asking you to please put the past behind you and lets all start to work together on the future as there is no magic wand just lots of opportunities if we embrace the change and work as a team.
Look forward to working with you all.
