Mavis Collison became the Association of Victorian Country Harness Racing Club’s ninth recipient of the prestigious Volunteer Service Award.
Announced at Sunday’s 2016 Gordon Rothaker Medal held at The Palldium at Crown, the award recognises the invaluable contribution of volunteers throughout the industry and in particular at club level.
Ms Collison, who is well known throughout the industry as the face of Bendigo Harness Racing Club, was selected from a strong field of five nominees.
Known for her warm welcomes, Ms Collison has prepared and served ump ting sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold beverages for trainers, drivers and owners for more than 25 years in the club’s supper room.
Wonderfully, her voluntary service extends beyond the trotting club through her involvement as a CFA member (all of her adult life), including voluntary catering, eight years as the CFA communications officer and two years as second auditor.
She is also a member and office bearer at her local church, and was recently installed as the secretary/treasurer of her local tennis club.
