The APG NATIONAL MIXED SALE is off to a flying start and the scene is set for a very exciting week. The friendly team at APG is currently working through a massive 2 million dollars in bidding credit requests that came in on day one of this sale.

No-one could have predicted this huge level of interest on the opening day, however, it’s a very pleasing start for all those involved in our sport.

Vendors like Jason Busschenschutt must be over the moon. Jason came to APG looking for the best way to go about selling two outstanding lots.

The advice he was given was to set very achievable reserves and let the market do the rest.

It’s extremely pleasing that we can report that both Jason’s Lots 12 and 102 have exceeded their reserves and will soon be finding new homes come Sunday afternoon.

The bidding on Lot 102, who just happens to be the group 1 winning mare Led Suitcase, looks far from being over. This distinguished 2006 Blissfull Hall mare (that won $261,395 on track) also just happens to be the half-sister of Lennytheshark our (Aus/NZ) 6th greatest earner of all time with $3,007,585 in career earnings.

This mare is from the very successful A4 Family:

Closely related members of Led Suitcase
Lennytheshark $3,007,585
Royal Verdict $535,305
Mother Courage $462,520
Penny Veejay $387,114
La Machane $335,268
Tandias Courage $305,236
Vansumic $268,649
Blissfull Boy $241,970
Pacific Charm $221,369
Lord Marques $214,830
Prince Bonton $203,830
Lagoon Lady $203,183
Sun of Sonoko $200,042

The success of Day 1 is not just restricted to Jason, as a very healthy number of other lots have also moved well passed their very reasonable reserves.  Lot 1 is a great example:  Made Of Dreams – a Parsons Den mare in foal to the first crop sire Follow The Stars. This WA based sire has had 9 individual winners already this season and his future is looking very bright.

Matt Day, (a leading NSW breeder that contacted us yesterday) said he was so excited about the up and coming week of trading. He hoped by the close of play late Sunday afternoon he would be adding to the number of broodmares under his management and care.

Harness Racing, and in particular the breeding sector, looks to be on a massive upswing. We will leave others to work out why this is the case, however, the improved weather conditions and forecasts for most parts of the country, plus the additional resources APG are putting into events like the NATIONAL MIXED SALE must be playing significate roles.

It’s really important anyone looking to participate in this groundbreaking event registers early. Late registrations will be extremely hard to manage and not guaranteed past noon Friday.
