Trainer/driver Mark Yole steered the punters into a winner last week with his weekend best saluting the judge first in Burnie on Friday night. Mark gives his thoughts on Sunday night’s card in Launceston and the Inside Word is a chat with race caller Matt Robertson.
Weekend best
An outstanding effort from this bloke last week. I worked forward early and was able to find the lead. From there he never got any peace and set a blistering tempo. He had the audacity to kick away from his rivals at the 400m mark but just ran out of carrots and was caught late by the good sit sprinter Jack James. He still ran second in a 1:57 mile rate over 2090m. That is outstanding form for this race. Here he has a tricky inside back row draw but if I can navigate a path off the fence, he should be beating his rivals.
Under the radar
No luck at all last week, he got poleaxed at the start and had to make up a lot of ground. He was still spotted hitting the line strongly. He comes up with a tough draw here, but he may be able to get a three-wide cart into the race and if there is a genuine tempo up front, he will be powering home late.
Wish I was in the sulky
Going really well, he hasn’t missed a place at his last four starts. He doesn’t like to win out of turn, however he usually has to do a lot of work in his races. The draw is interesting as there appears to be gate speed to his inside but if Adrian can push forward and find a position, he will be in the finish again.
Black booker
Super effort last week at Burnie from this fellow. He absolutely flew out of the gate when I really wound him up, I think I may have even given the mobile driver a fright!!! However after finding the lead around the tight circuit, he contacted the wheels with his hind legs and started to heavily over-race, from there he was entitled to weaken and stop but he didn’t and he battled on admirably for third. If he has recovered from that run, he looks a great hope here. Although drawn wide I will be pushing to find the top again as he races best in front and if he can get there, he should be very hard to beat. He won’t be hitting the wheels again as we will be putting a longer sulky on him.
