HAVING visited his state of origin as an ‘outsider’, quality pacer Major Crocker is set to become a local.
Bred and owned in South Australia, Major Crocker has been transferred to local horseman Justin Brewin, with the son of Art Major due to arrive from Perth tonight.
Major Crocker was in Western Australia to contest the Inter Dominion, where he was void of luck, but managed two handy fourths in his heats.
Previously prepared by Victorian trainer Vince Vallelonga, Major Crocker has made six appearances in SA for four wins and a second.
His victories include a clean sweep of the 2014 Southern Cross series at Globe Derby.
During his time with Vallelonga Major Crocker also secured the Group One Breeders’ Crown Final at Melton along with an Inter Dominion Consolation, the Caduceus, VHRSC and Paul Fitzpatrick Cups.
Owner, and Harness Racing SA board member, Gary Crocker, decided to send the seven-year-old to Brewin in preparation for the SA Cup on January 13.
Thrilled to have Major Crocker join his stable, Brewin plans to give the gelding an easy week with the view of contesting a free-for-all on December 30.
“He is a great addition to the team,” Brewin said. “He’s the best horse I’ve ever put my hands on.
“Given he has been floated over from Western Australia and just been through an Inter Dominion, he will have the next few days off to freshen up.
“I will see how he feels after that and may start him at the end of the month.
“If he doesn’t go around then, he will race in the open class event a week before the Cup.
“Knowing how good he is and what he is capable of, he should dominate the open class races over here.”
