The win of Lord Lombo at Narrogin on Saturday night brought up the 1000th win in Western Australia for the 11yo gelding’s breeder Lombo Standardbreds Pty Ltd.
Owned by former WA Trotting Assocation President Mick Lombardo, the entity of Lombo Standardbreds Pty Ltd bred its first winner in WA when Smooth Sensation won at Pinjarra on 8th October 1990 for trainer Graham Tindale.
Lombo Standardbreds Pty Ltd is just the fourth entity or individual to breed the winners of 1000 races in Western Australia joining Royalstar Pty Ltd, E A Dewar and Allwood Stud Farm in that select group.
Of the total of 1000 wins, 410 have come in the city and only former WA Trotting Assocation President J P Stratton and Royalstar Pty Ltd have bred more winners of races held in Perth.
Fourteen of the wins have been in Group One races including a Golden Nugget Championship with Lombo Pocket Watch and three WA Oaks courtesy of Tailamade Lombo, Lombo Rapida and Nevabend Lombo.
