Locharburn’s Cup week campaign is back on again.

And while trainer Kevin Chapman admits it is only a consolation after the big pacer was forced out of the great race on November 8, it is a pretty serious consolation.

The Easter Cup winner fibrillated at Addington last start, dropping out and leaving Chapman with little choice but to pull him from the Cup.

“You can’t take on those type of horses over 3200m after any setbacks like that,” he said.

But Locharburn has bounced back to peak health and Chapman was more than pleased with his third at the Rangiora trials on Wednesday.

“He looks great and Dexter (Dunn) as very happy with him so it is all go for Cup week.”

Locharburn will head to the junior free-for-all on Cup Day and all going well the New Zealand Free-For-All three days later.

The latter is shaping as one of the races of the carnival, even if it does end up missing Have Faith In Me and Smolda should they end up going to Perth for the Inter Dominion.

It could still have Lazarus, Christen Me, Dream About Me, defending champion Tiger Tara, last season’s placegetter Messini and now Locharburn.
