The journey back to racing is well and truly underway for Live On Broadway, who has resumed light duties in the hands of trainer Shannon McLean.
The Stable Of Stars horse came back into work on Thursday, zeroing in for a track return for his star-studded owners Rick McLean, Garry Lyon, Hamish McLachlan, Tim Watson, Jason Dunstall, Moana Hope, Larni Salathiel, Craig Hutchison, Liam Pickering, John Rothfield and Danny Frawley.
“I will jog him for 15 to 20 minutes and increase that up to 25 minutes at about the five-week mark,” McLean said. “At about that time I will get the vet to check over him.”
The focus is on Live On Broadway’s sesamoid after an earlier check discovered it was inflamed, which McLean attributed to a maturity injury.
“Light work will give him a chance to get a foundation and then we will x-ray him again to make sure nothing is wrong,” he said.
“He has had seven-and-a-half weeks rest, and so the vet was confident that would be ample time. It will take him about three months to get back to race fit, late August looks like the best-case scenario for potential trialling.”
