Pop the champers, we have a winner!

The Stable of Stars was in the winners’ stall courtesy of Art Major-Broadway Play gelding Live On Broadway, who edged out Tell Nobody to win the last race at Maryborough’s annual Humbletonian 2017 card last Thursday.

Stable of Stars is a trots ownership group consisting of high-profile owners Danny Frawley, Moana Hope, Garry Lyon, Tim Watson, Craig Hutchison, Larni Salathiel, Dr Turf, Liam Pickering, Rick McLean, Jason Dunstall and Hamish McLachlan.

Driven by Ian McMahon, Live On Broadway rated 1:57.1 for the 1690-metre journey.

“When the penny drops for this horse he’s going to be a very good horse,” McMahon said post-race.

“He just stuck his head out and kept going to the line, which was very good. We know he’s only 85 per cent right, with a bit of luck he will keep on improving on that. He’s just a really nice horse.”

Both McMahon and trainer Shannon McLean lauded Live On Broadway’s “competitive spirit”. “You can’t teach that, you either have it or you don’t,” McLean said.

Live On Broadway also picked up his $7000 Vicbred First Win Bonus via the win, the flagship Harness Racing Victoria futurity program supporting the local breeding industry by encouraging people to “think Vicbred” when breeding a standardbred racehorse.
