Top harness racing driver Kate Gath says she cast her mind to Tilly Wilkes and the brave sufferers of Epidermolysis Bullosa to help her through the New York City Marathon in the US on Sunday.

Gath, running in support of the EB Research Partnership Australia, completed the famous race in a time of 3.28.23hr, and joined Matt Nevett and Shawn Cosgrove on RSN to talk about her efforts.

“It’s probably the most brutal experience of my life, but we got there so that’s the main thing,” Gath, who returns home to Australia this week, said.

“I was pretty much spent after 30km, but the mind got me over the line and thinking of Tilly and all those people with EB out there, what they have to endure.

“It was good to get the job done, but it’s a beast of a course. And it’s true what they say – it’s a tough one.”
