Shane Tritton’s latest buzz pacer Lombo Kotakinabalu will be nominated for the Perth Inter Dominion.

The injury-plagued gelding has turned plenty of heads with four wins from five starts on the comeback trail after injuries restricted him to just one run in the past two years.

“We had a huge opinion of this horse two years ago before he went amiss,” Tritton said. “I thought he had the ability to be a Miracle Mile back then.

“It’s hard to make any long term plans with a horse who’s had the problems he’s had, but he is a sound right now as we’ve ever had him.

“He’s got the ability to have a crack at the big races and he passed a bit of a test last week.”

Lombo Kotakinabalu stepped out of restricted class – he is still only a three metro win horse – to thrash an open-class field in the Group 3 Vic Frost Cup (1609m) at Menangle last Friday night.

On that performance, he will be a commanding favourite to repeat the dose against the same sort of field in the Group 3 West Campbelltown Pace over the longer 2300m trip at the same track this Saturday night.

The only disappointment of last week’s win was the fact the electronic timing system didn’t record any official times.

Tritton went to social media for an answer and enter Sky Racing’s Greg Hayes.

“I timed him frame-by-frame off the replay and got him going the mile in 1min50.56sec with splits of 25.88, 28.52, 29.00 and 27.16sec,” Hayes said.

Lombo Kotakinabalu’s margin was still increasing on the line as he finished 15.3m clear of his nearest rival.

“He’ll go around again this week and then have a little break because he’s been in work a long time to get to this stage,” Tritton said.

“He’ll be nominated for the Inter Dominion, but whether he goes depends on whether he keeps this sort of form going and stays sound.”
