Champion reinsman Chris Lewis drove metropolitan win number 2500 when brilliant kiwi Lets Chase The Dream made a brilliant Perth debut when he finished strongly to win the WA Derby Prelude (2130m).

Trained by Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, Lets Chase The Dream will start a hot favourite in next Friday’s $200,000 WA Derby (2536m).

Lets Chase The Dream ($2.60), who rated 1:55.1, scored by 2.75m from Mach Time ($8.10). Ideal Tyson ($15.50) was another 2m back in third place.

The $2.20 favourite Overboard Again tired badly and pulled up with a respiratory problem.

Lets Chase The Dream, a winner of eight New Zealand races, was flown to Perth last Monday.

While the stable is unsure who will drive the son of Bettors Delight in the rich WA  Derby next week, the Purdon Rasmussen team would be wise to Lewis and his local knowledge on the colt.

Lewis drive on Friday night was one of his best caught on fence from his second line draw he never panicked when still locked in at the bell. He extricated Lets Chase The Dream 400m from the finish and sent him three-wide.

The colt rounded them up in the home straight to win with authority.

Lets Face The Dream is owned by Victorian Jean Fiess a long time client of the All Star Stable of Mark Purdon.
