A hind leg injury has forced  the scratching of Alley Way at the Tuapeka meeting on Sunday, but he remains in contention for the Dominion Handicap on November 11.

“He had injured a leg when he came out of his  box on Thursday morning. He has been treated and the vet said he would be  100 per cent by Monday,’’ said  his trainer Phil Williamson.

“It probably means he will have to race at Kaikoura (October 30) before the Dominion.”

Alley Way was runner up to Master Lavros in the Dominion Handicap last year and earlier in the year finished third to to Stent and Master Lavros in the Rowe Cup, both races over 3200m. He has also won over the distance. Alley Way has finished second in his two starts, both at Addigton since joining the Williamson stable.

He was beaten a head by Sunny Ruby in the Canterbury Park Cup at his most recent appearance. He  is at $18 with the TAB for the Dominion.

The Williamson stable will now pin hopes in Monty Python and Pyramid Magic in the 3200m race at the Tuapeka meeting. Monty Python  has finished third in three of his four starts in a fresh campaign. He finished third behind Bordeaux and Alley Way two starts back at Addington.

Pyramid Magic finished fourth behind Kowhai Whiz at Forbury Park on Thursday night after starting from 40m and attempting to lead for the last 1600m. “The two miles (3200m) should suit him on Sunday,” said his driver Matthew  Williamson. Kowhai Whiz was impressive after starting from 40m.
