TALENTED youngster Culture King is expected to have no trouble maintaining his perfect season at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Winner of his four starts for the term, Culture King will contest the St Leger against just four rivals.
Thrilled with the three-year-old’s progress, trainer Paul Cavallaro stated bad luck is the biggest danger facing Culture King.
“Small fields like this can be tricky,” Cavallaro declared. “That said it is hard seeing him being beaten.
“He feels terrific, has been working great and has drawn handy enough.
“Mackalan won his first couple last season and went well first-up a few weeks ago so he is likely to improve and make his presence felt.”
Setting his sights on the South Australia Derby, Cavallaro is also contemplating an interstate campaign with the son of Art Major.
The Blue Riband is part of a sensational SA Pacing Cup program at Globe Derby on February 9.
“He did well last time in when he wasn’t a true two-year-old and has come back a lot sharper this campaign,” Cavallaro said. “He’s put on about 20 kilos and is a lot more focused.
“I’m working him towards our Derby which will be a good test to see how he measures up against some of the others that come over.
“If he holds himself well in that I will look at heading to Menangle for the New South Derby heats a fortnight after that.”
