8August 18, Globe Derby Friday preview

Hobby trainer John Stewart has Little Tweek racing and in good form and will be hoping for two wins in a week at Globe Derby Park on Friday night.

Little Tweek will come from gate eight in the Ubet Pace (1800m) with in-form reinsman Josh Holberton aboard.

No doubt Holberton will trail through behind The Ole Buckaroo which looks the certain leader from gate one, then try to use the sprint lane to grab victory.

Holberton drove Little Tweek to victory last Monday at Globe Derby Park beating Santanna Rhythm. In that race, Holberton had the five-year-old one out in the running lane before bringing him with a well-timed run to win.

Stewart, who trains on his property at Korunye, has won four races with the gelding this preparation and has him racing really well.

Holberton has had an amazing season.

In his first full season of driving, Holberton sits 6th on the SA premiership with 37 wins, quite an achievement.

The Ole Buckaroo will give a lot of cheek from barrier one.

The Shane Young-trained pacer, to be driven by Mario Borg, indicated a return to form at Globe Derby Park on August 8, leading and being run down by Our Strawberry Miss and from his draw will be the one to catch again.

The Hygain Pak-Cell Trotters Handicap (2230m) is another interesting race with the brilliant beginner Joekenn giving a 60 metre start to the front markers.

The David Smith-trained trotter will be driven by his son Michael, who also has had a good season with 34 winners.

Joekenn begins so well he generally finds himself in a striking position within half a lap, and again being opposed to just seven rivals, also helps his cause.

Variable Miss, trained by Ian Hardy and to be driven by Lisa Ryan, looks a danger coming off 30 metres.

Her manners have been questionable but recently she looks to have turned the corner and with a safe beginning will certainly be in the finish.
