“I’ve only ever bought five fillies at the sales and they’ve all won.”

The speaker is Paskeville hobby breeder-owner Jason Bussenschutt, a fourth generation harness participant who conducts a 1400 acre cereal and sheep property on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula.

The quintet of fillies were Getya Wings Out, who won 11 races including the 2013 Southern Cross 3YO Final and $137,459, Chequered Lass (who won 11), Contrarymary Lombo (6 wins)), Yesukai (6 wins) and Parfait Amour (2 wins).

Getya Wings Out and Parfair Amour have been retained by Jason for breeding purposes.

Jason belongs to a family with a stout background in harness racing dating back to the mid 1950’s. His great grandfather Albert, grandfather Kevin and father Mostyn were all successful trotting breeders.

“My grandfather stood the stallions Red Emperor, Violation and Van Derby on the same property that I own today,” Jason said. “Violation won 17 races on end, while Van Derby set a world record on a grass track in NZ.”

Jason, who currently owns four broodmares – the Breeders Crown champion Led Suitcase, Perfect Lignum, Getya Wings Out and Parfait Amour – has experienced a fair measure of success as a breeder in his own right.

“The best horse I’ve bred by a mile is Fistfullofdollars,” Jason said.

A SA Yearling Sale graduate, the Elsu gelding won a total of 24 races including the Southern Cross 2YO Final, Golden Nursery, Sale Graduate Pace, St Leger and Gawler Derby and amassed $180,976 in stakes.

Other winners bred by Jason include Bolt Action Blood (13 wins), Thunder Fee (7 wins), Mostyn Powers (5 wins), Ima Shark, who finished runner-up in the SA Botra Pace, Three Cases and Contrary Courage.

Bussenschutt will turn from buyer to vendor at the Allwood Stud Farm SA Yearling Sale to be held at the Magic Millions complex, Morphettville on Sunday, February 10.

His sole entry is Lot 14, a stylish filly by the 2010 USA Horse of the Year Rock N Roll Heaven out of the 2011 SA Broodmare of the Year Perfect Lignum.

By Perfect Art, Perfect Lignum, who totted up 40 wins with 34 placings and earned $144,866, was a half-sister to five winners and figures as the dam of the dual Group winning Fistfullofdollars.

“She’s the only Rock N Roll Heaven filly in the sale and is bred on the identical cross as Heavens Trend, Eye See Diamonds and Anything For Love (1:48.7),” Jason said. “She also carries a 3×3 cross to Artsplace.”

Catalogues are available from Globe Derby Park, Port Pirie, all other SA country tracks, Tabcorp Park Melton and Tabcorp Park Menangle. The on-line version is available at http://www.saharnessracing.com/site/  and  www.saharness.com
