Jack Trainor has only held his trainers license for just over twelve months and the former kiwi has not hesitated, putting plenty of runs on the board in that brief time.
Born and raised on New Zealand’s South Island, Trainor has for some time, been highly regarded as one of the best drivers in New South Wales but is rapidly making a name for himself as a trainer with his boutique team of pacers.
No doubt his biggest win as a trainer was when his stable star Pocket Of Terror took out the consolation of the TAB Interdominion Pacing Championship at Tabcorp Park Menangle in December. He also contested the Grand Final with Balraj which he described as an awesome experience.
Jack secured the 3yo Eastern Regional New South Wales Breeders Challenge final for colts and geldings earlier in December when Rocket Boy was strong in winning the Group 3 feature.
On Sunday at Maitland, Trainor combined with Jack Callaghan to win the 59th running of the Intercity Pace with Chevron Art after the gelding enjoyed a perfect run in transit.
“It has been a massive few months for our stable,” said Trainor.
“To qualify Balraj for the Interdominion final at my first attempt and to win those feature races with the others has been so satisfying.”
“Pocket Of Terror and Balraj have certainly put me on the map as a trainer and I know that horses like Rocket Boy and Chevron Art can progress to metropolitan racing in the near future.”
“We set Chevron Art for the Intercity Pace series, it is a race that I have always wanted to win, and after his heat run, I was quietly confident going into the final.”
“Jack drove him a treat from his tough draw and things just fell into place perfectly.”
“Ideal Terror (race 3) is the only horse that we are taking to Penrith tonight. He is owned by the family of driver Jack Brown so it would be nice if he can win for them.”
“He trailed really well at Menangle recently, running quick time against a handy field so he would only need to reproduce that form to go close in a race like this.”
“I am hoping that 2022 can continue like the 2021 season ended. I have been so blessed to have such great support from my owners.”
