A collection of C0 and C1 contests plus a claimers is the order of the day at Invercargill on Monday. Despite the low key look of the programme, runners have come from Canterbury, Otago and Southland and honours are likely to spread among the three provinces.
YOUR 1st CHOICE MCMILLANS PROTEIN PLUS CLAIMERS MOBILE PACE
The C7 pacer Expresso Martini is the most tightly assessed in this line-up by a margin. Dexter Dunn has been in the sulky for his last two wins and takes up the reins again on Monday.
TOPLINE MUSCLE FROM HANLEYS FORMULA AT FARMLANDS TROT
She Ain’t No Angel did enough second-up at Oamaru to suggest she will be a match for most of these. No certainty but Phil Williamson wins a lot of maiden trots in the south in the course of a year and she is his only representative in the field.
MITAVITE EQUINE FEEDS SUPPORTING HARNESS RACING TROT
Sundons Wish won his maiden with authority on debut and the rise in grade should pose no problems. Nathan Williamson hands the reins to his assistant, junior driver Matt Purvis, on Monday and the five year old looks well placed to provide Purvis with his first win south of Forbury Park.
ULTRAMOX WORMERS AT FARMLANDS MOBILE PACE
Argyle Beach sat parked for the last 800 of a sub-56 mile at Winton two back and fought doggedly. A punctured tyre destroyed her chances last time but she’ll be back.
NRM EQUINE FEEDS ‘YOUR BREEDING FEEDS’ MOBILE PACE
Cleaver Green was sent out third favourite on debut at the Mot but had to work hard early and was swamped late. The three year old son of Christian Cullen has not fared well in the draw Monday but looks good enough to overcome it and has Blair Orange to assist.
STRATEGY T WORMERS AT FARMLANDS MOBILE PACE
Bull Hayes was sent out favourite at Cromwell in his first South Island start and fought well for third. He had perfect run five days later and didn’t fire. Has had more time to get over run this time and deserves respect.
FOR GREAT COATS USE LIVAMOL FROM FARMLANDS MOBILE PACE
The Kaik found the line well at Oamaru after drawing wide, going back and having to improve wide on the bend to get a run. The Bettors Delight three year old has another wide draw on Monday but with Cran Dalgety and Dexter Dunn involved it shouldn’t prove too great a barrier.
MCMILLAN EQUINE FEEDS SUPPORTING SOUTHLAND RACING MOB PACE
Goodlookin Chick was trapped back on the inner on the grass at Rangiora but finished well when clear. One on the second line doesn’t look ideal on Monday but with Blair Orange in control, the filly has the motor to overcome it.
