Make no mistake he’s right on song for the final.

Cruz Bromac’s win was less action-packed after he strolled to the front and dashed home in 55.3 and 26.8sec to score by 5.1m, albeit in the fastest of the 2240m mile rates of the night at 1min53.8sec.

“He felt good out there. I’m pretty confident he’s happy, sound and well,” Rasmussen said.

Rejuvenated veteran Maximan, bought for $20,000 out of a claimer just a few months back by clients of Team Tritton, ran a mighty race for third after sitting parked.

The middle heat went to underrated WA pacer Galactic Star – who won a heat and finished fifth in last year’s final – after driver Todd McCarthy speared him to the front.

Local star San Carlo moved around to sit parked, poured on the pressure with a 27.7sec split down the back straight, but had to be content with a fighting second.

In the trotting series, Speeding Spur underlined his tag as the main danger to local star Tornado Valley with an easy win in the second of last night’s heats.

Josh Dickie took him straight to the front from gate two, cruised through a 62.8sec first half and zipped home in 56.2 and 28.3sec to beat eye-catching local Maori Law by 8.5m in a 1min58.7sec mile rate for 2240m.

“I was really pleased tonight. He did it easily and seemed really well after the race,” Dickie said.

“We’re pretty sure he’ll handle the series well.”

Tornado Valley also led to win his heat, but was tested a lot more by NSW stayer Tough Monarch and still won easily in a fast 1min57sec mile rate. It was a just 1.0sec outside Keystone Del’s track record.
