6Advice has been received that the fire which have ravaged the State’s mid-north on Wednesday afternoon is now approximately 75% contained, with at least 35 homes being destroyed and 2 fatalities reported.

In the wake of the outbreak that afternoon, Harness Racing SA Ltd (HRSA) started to receive a number of phone calls from concerned harness racing industry participants, reporting loss of both property and horses.

The Chair of Stewards and her panel then proceeded to make contact with all licensed persons and industry participants that reside in the area that evening and yesterday morning, to establish their status in terms of safety, and loss and damage incurred.

As a result, HRSA is offering advice and assistance to those industry people affected by the fire. In addition, other members of the industry have already assisted by way of providing food, medical supplies and transport to ensure the welfare of horses is maintained, which is greatly appreciated. It is encouraging that an industry like harness racing rallies together in such a time of adversity.

Harness Racing Australia and other interstate harness racing controlling authorities have also indicated their willingness to support HRSA in due course.

Updates will be provided should any further developments occur.
