The Tammy Langley-trained Impulze claimed the $12,000 Kevin Redpath Truck, Backhoe and Excavator Hire North West Plate Final (2180m) in Burnie on Wednesday afternoon.

The four-year-old gelding started the easing race favourite after drifting from $2.70 out to $3.20.

The gelding galloped out in the standing start event and ended up being positioned three back on the pylons before driver Dylan Ford got the pacer into the clear racing room just after the bell.

“I saw Oneofthelads to my outside was struggling at the bell, and I pushed one-off, and he is one of those horses when clear air comes, he doesn’t look to be going too good until he gets out and starts to wind up.

“He is a little bit tricky to get away from a stand. He has gone away once and then broke, and then the last two, he has had a bit of a weird action (and gallops) when he first goes away, so stands aren’t going to suit him, I don’t think.

“He has been a cheap little buy for the owners, and I think there are still a couple of more wins in him,” said Ford.

Impulze has won four races this season and was one of three favourites to win on the program, along with Alberio ($1.50) and Scarlet Place ($2.40).

Leading trainer Ben Yole had three winners on the program, including Major Mucha ($5) and Whatta Good Reason ($5.10), who were both driven by Nathan Ford, while Hannah Van Dongen was in the sulky for the win aboard Going Great Guns ($16.40).

Six-year-old gelding Bold Centurian continued his brilliant 2023 season by leading all the way for father-and-son duo Steven and Brodie Davis.

The pacer now has won seven races, with seven of those wins being this season.
