IT is that time of year that teal lights up our racetracks and Harness Racing New South Wales is proud to rally its support behind the WomenCan Team Teal campaign again.

From February 1 until March 15, 2023, reinswomen across the state will wear teal driving pants to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support women with ovarian cancer.

The Team Teal campaign takes place across Australia and New Zealand and has risen over $2.5million since its inception.

This year HRNSW is taking it up a notch again, with a record amount of Team Teal ambassadors in each region of the state. They are:

Metropolitan

  • Belinda McCarthy (trainer)
  • KerryAnn Morris (trainer/driver)
  • Sofia Arvidsson (trainer/driver)

North/Hunter

  • Jemma Coney (driver)
  • Grace Panella (driver)
  • Melanie Elder (trainer)

South

  • Taylah Osmond (driver)
  • Ellen Bartley (trainer/driver)

West

  • Amanda Turnbull (trainer/driver)
  • Emma Turnbull (driver)

Each time a female trained and/or driven horse wins in NSW, HRNSW will donate $200 plus an additional $200 for every ambassador trained and/or driven winner to WomenCan – a not-for-profit organisation that exists to raise funds for pioneering gynaecological cancer research, education, and prevention programs conducted by the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG).

Adding to this, Tabcorp will also be donating $200 for every winning female driver and Club Menangle has also pledged $200 for every female trained and/or driven winner at that track.

HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny is encouraging the entire industry to get behind the fundraising.

“This marks the eighth year HRNSW has supported Team Teal, something we are very proud of,” said Dumesny.

“This research is very important and if Clubs, owners, trainers, sponsors and any other members of the harness racing fraternity can afford to sponsor a female driver for the next six weeks please do so.”
