Harness Racing NSW has appointed Mr Peter Buckman as the replacement Chief Executive Officer for the retiring incumbent John Dumesny.
Mr Buckman is a dedicated professional with over 20 years’ experience in senior roles across the energy, minerals and racing sectors. He specialises in and has focused his career on environment, social responsibility, governance and risk management, whilst he has held multiple senior roles for a range of listed international companies.
Ken Brown AM, Chairman of Harness Racing NSW in announcing the appointment stated that the generous time given by the retiring Chief Executive had allowed for a lengthy and diligent recruitment process.
“The Board has undertaken an exhaustive process and Mr Buckman’s experience in sustainability, risk and commercial management is a vital asset in ensuring continuity for the industry in the years ahead,” he said.
“Mr Buckman’s appointment reflects the Board’s continued dedication to ensuring current and emerging risks to the business are understood and managed.”
Mr Buckman also brings considerable knowledge of the Harness Racing NSW business model and framework, having sat as a Member the Board of HRNSW since 2018.
Mr Buckman cites his strong passion in ensuring that future growth is galvanised off an already robust integrity model and the continuation by the controlling body as the industry leader in all facets of the harness racing code.
“I am excited and humbled by the opportunity provided to me by the Board and I look forward to meeting with all of our key stakeholders in due course,” Mr Buckman said.
Mr Buckman holds formal qualifications in Business, Occupational Health and Safety and Management.
The incumbent Chief Executive Officer John Dumesny relinquishes his role effective from July 8 and until then Mr Buckman will be the Chief Executive Designate commencing in that position in early April.
