THE inaugural time trials for the Bathurst Shootout were held at Paceway Bathurst last night.
Designed by the Bathurst Harness Racing Club to honour the famous Bathurst 1000 car race which will take place at Mount Panorama this weekend, 10 horses competed for their spot in this Friday night’s $12,000 Bathurst Shootout Final (1200m).
The fastest eight horses over the 1200m distance progressed to the final and there were only a couple of seconds between each of the respective competitors.
Most horses were aided with a galloping pacemaker, however, the fastest heat winner Modern Era was not.
A condition of the race was that trainers were able to select their own barrier draws for the final.
The first draw was by the trainer whose horse ran the fastest time and so on.
Reserves have been allotted saddlecloths nine and 10 but will take the barrier position of the withdrawn horse(s) if any.
The Bathurst Shootout Final field and their individual trial times are as follows:
- Modern Era – 1:23.2
- Miles Above – 1:23.7
- Smack Dab Shannon – 1:23.8
- Justa Dale – 1:23.9
- Tulhurst Ace – 1:24.2
- Our Novak – 1:24.30
- Chief Fairman – 1:24.35
- Itsallaboutlu – 1:24.7
- Sabrage (Em 1) – 1:25.5
- Swaggie Shannon (Em 2) – 1:25.8
